Looted money 70 lakh recovered at Baluchar Sylhet, two with arms arrested
Sylhet Correspondent : Sylhet, Nov. 14: Tk. 70 lakh of Unilever Company Sylhet chapter, which was looted in a film-style hijacking, have been recovered from Baluchar within 6 hours of the said hijacking at North Kazitula, Sylhet City last night at seven.
It has been learnt from ADC Rahmatullah SMP (Media) that the money looted in broad daylight yesterday afternoon at 1-00 p.m. have been recovered from 160, Al Islah, Baluchar Residential Area in Sylhet City last evening at seven. The money kept in two sacks have been recovered and subsequently arrested Anur Haq (14) S/O Mashuq Miah of the village Noagaon under Jalalabad Thana and Kawsar Ahmed (23) S/O Major Ali of village Chanpur of Mugolgaon Union under the same thana in Sylhet District. The two have been suspected to be associated with the hijacking.
It has been said that two accounts staff of Unilever Bangladesh Sylhet chapter Barobazar Depot on board a private car (No. Sylhet Kha-11-0169) were going to Exim Bank Zindabazar Branch to deposit Tk. 70 lakh in cash at around 1-00 p.m. yesterday. As soon as the car reached North Kazitula (Kaher Miah Lane) hijackers riding on four Motorcycles and a CNG Auto-rickshaw intercepted the car, damaged glass panes and looted the money at gun point. As the news of film-style hijacking rocked the city, there has been a panicky situation among businessmen, bank clients and people got stunned with the security-less civic life persisting in Sylhet.
As a result, Police launched an all out effort and at long last being confirmed, raided house 160, Al Islah, Baluchr at 6-30 p.m. Police recovered looted Tk. 70 lakh 70 thousand in two sacks and arrested the aforesaid two hijackers. With their confessional statement, police started vigorous campaign to nab the hijackers gangster. Police officers who led the recovery campaign are Additional Deputy Commission (Media) Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Mr. Rahmatullah, ADC (Sadar South) Zedan Al Musa, Assistant Police Commissioner Shahparan Thana A.K.M. Shajjadul Alam, Assistant Police Commission Kotwali, Nurul Huda Ashrafi, Sylhet Kotwali Officer-in-Charge Mr. Shuhel Ahmed and Shahparan Thana Oficer-in-Charge Shahjalal Munshi supported by two heavy contingents of armed police personnels.
When contacted SMP Additional Deputy Commissioner Zedan Al Musa said, looted Tk. 70,70,000 have been recovered from a residence of Baluchar Mosque Muazzin (Caller to prayers) and seized two CNG Auto-rickshaws and arrested four persons in this connection.
In another hijacking bid at 4-00 p.m. at Zindabazar in Sylhet City, people foiled the attempt and chased the hijackers who fled away leaving two motorcycles (One is Pulsar and another is Discoverer). Police seized the two motorcycles.
